Home :: Black Lodge Room

Hi, I'm here!

I have been meaning to share photos of this room for such a long time. It is in the basement just off of the main basement area if that makes sense. When we moved in we thought that this room was so cool and immediately started calling it the Black Lodge Room because it reminded us of the Black Lodge in Twin Peaks. Except that the walls in the original Black Lodge are red and it's the carpet that is red in this room.

Well, as cool as we think this room is we never ever use it so we have decided to transform it into a beer brewing room. Unfortunately that means ripping up the red shag carpet but I'm excited for the room to actually be functional.

Before the room gets its big makeover I had to make sure that I took some photos of the way it is now. When most people see the basement they tell us that you can easily paint wood paneling. No thank you, not interested. I love the cheesy wood paneling!

The room is decorated with all of the miscellaneous things that we have collected over the years including a lot of things that came from my Grandma.

As you can see, Ivan has a pretty good beer stein collection. We actually think some might be missing because he had this really little one that I called the baby stein that we can't find. Probably in a box somewhere that we don't realize we haven't unpacked!

I'm going to miss that crazy carpet!

I hope everyone is having a great day. We had a really great weekend with Kaylah and Kevin that included outfit photos, the most delicious food in the world and lots of photobooth photos. I can't wait to share our outfit photos. They are so good!

  1. My grandma used to have a red shag carpet room! I loved it.

You should save a swatch to turn into an area rug once you rip it up.

    1. Yeah, we talked about that. We will have to pick an especially clean area of the rug for that! It is kind of nasty in some spots.

  2. I've always wanted a rumbas room with a red shag carpet! Very cool to have the extra space & I love all your lil trinkets & things from your grandmother! That lips phone reminds me of Clarissa Explains it all! Very cool!

I have a friend that brews beer and she absolutely loves it! From the look of the steins your husband will adore it! There is SOO many beers you can make!! Best wishes w/ the coversion!! =)

    1. I'm not too familiar with Clarissa Explains it all so the lip phone screams DJ Tanner to me!

Ivan brews a lot already and usually uses the car port outside but that only works well in the warmer weather. It will take some work to make the room ok to brew in (ventilation and stuff) but it will be awesome when it is finished!

  3. I totally second the area rug idea! or some wee little rug. That carpet is just too good! When I moved into my place, there was this intense mottled orange shag carpet in the office that I had the landlord rip up. Turns out it was lovely hardwood underneath, and now it's a perfect room to sew in (and not worry about pins getting stuck in the carpet only to find their way into the bottom of my feet).

    1. Sweet! There is yucky linoleum under this carpet, ha! But it is a floating floor so we may get rid of that too and just go right down to the basic concrete.

  4. That room is so awesome! I'm jealous of all your knick knacks & wall art. If I tried to decorate my house like that, it would just look like a mess. ;)

  5. How many people can truly boast of having a beer-brewing room? You should know this ranks you high on my coolness radar. Do you ever play the Trouble game? I think my mother-in-law has that one.

    1. Haha, thanks! No, it is missing a bunch of pieces so I use it for decoration because I like the box.

  6. I am so jealous! I wish I could live in a house with a basement!! Living in a house is extremely rare in my city, everyone lives in teeny-tiny apartments, which makes being a collector very difficult lol...

  7. Love it! I was going to say the same thing Jessica did, make a rug out of a piece of it!

  15. Perfection with the Twin Peakness of it all! When you get the beer room set up it should be a must to exclaim "Damn fine pint of beer".

  16. Can't you cut the carpet down and put some hessian backing on it make it into a rug to put somewhere else in the house, seems a shame to rip it up and not make use of it.

Excellent Stein collection by the way.

  17. I love your black lodge room. Now that it's going away, I kind of wish we spent some time in it. Is it just me or did it almost feel too cool to hang out in? I love the wood paneling too. I mentioned to you before, this room totally reminds me of Ronnie's in Kensington market. We should go there some time for a beer.
