I made this dress about a year ago and I keep debating on whether to hem it a bit more or make the bottom a bit more narrow so that it doesn't flare out. Any thoughts? I need to add it to my growing pile of "fix me" and "alter me" clothes.

The flare at the bottom is my favourite thing about it! Well that and the colour!
ReplyDeleteYou made that dress... well done! Is it velvet? Goodness red velvet is wonderful & the collar is super sweet. The flare & length look great, but if you shorten it up a bit you could show more of your great legs (even shorten it to where it is sitting in the last jumping image). And I hear you about Spring... we are currently expecting ice rain (you may be as well too). Blah!
ReplyDeletethanks! It is actually corduroy!
DeleteI think it would be cute a little shorter. But that opinion is heavily influenced by my current preference for shorter dresses :)
ReplyDeleteLOVE the dress, well done! Was scrolling down to see the shop it came from ;)
ReplyDeleteSo cute! And I love the dress + collar! Could maybe be a little shorter though, like just above the knees :)
ReplyDeleteYou look adorable, I love this outfit on you. And awesome job on the dress it's super cute!!!
ReplyDeleteI love the dress!
ReplyDeleteyou look really cute in you non-warm-weather clothes. these colors are gorgeous - i love your burgundy dress! especially with those awesome tights
ReplyDeleteI love that dress!! It looks super cute as it is - but I think it would look cute shorter too :)
ReplyDeleteI am so ready for Spring too!!! I love this entire outfit!! That dress is so snazzy! You should totally open up your own shop selling your handmade clothes!!!
ReplyDeleteChanneling Snow White with these photos, today! Very pretty! You're like a forbidden apple. :)
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love that dress! The fact that you made it makes you even more awesome than I already thought you were. I like it with the flair but I'm really not good about stuff like that.
ReplyDeleteI think it looks cute as is! :)
ReplyDeleteYou are looking splendid. I adore your rich color choices.
ReplyDeleteAnna
Adorable as always! As for what to do with the dress I think just a little shorter would look great.
ReplyDeleteI agree with taking it up a bit. I personally like wearing dresses that are right above the knee.
ReplyDeleteBut that dress is lovely! I agree, it's well done!
It makes me sad to see my 'alter me' pile never decrease! There's always so much to do.
i love it as it is... i really love it! the colour, the length...everything.. and i think the flare give the dress a bit of a retro look :)
ReplyDeleteI love your dress! I definitely agree that it would look even better if it was taken up until it hit just at the top of your knee. Dresses that are that length help lengthen your legs and make you look taller, which is flattering (most of the time).

Yea, warm weather would be nice, but the colors you're wearing together are great! :D
ReplyDeleteI love this dress. Which pattern did you use ... or is it your own design?
ReplyDeleteLove also this collar.

Steffi
I posted a photo of the pattern here...

Aaaaah ... a simplicity pattern ... thank you so much.
DeleteI will search for them.
These shoes are so good looking!
ReplyDeleteI like the flare!
ReplyDeleteLove that dress! I like the flare, and the collar :)
ReplyDeleteI love the flare, but I think it would be cute just a tad shorter! Love the pretty colour too :) And those shoes are so cute!

Those tights are the perfect color green, and the collar on your dress is cute as heck!
ReplyDeleteI know it's been said a million times, but I really like your hair like this. It is super cute. I also like the shape of the dress. I think it is adorable as-is, but a little shorter would be cute too.
ReplyDeletethank you! Of course I'm already sick of my hair but that's nothing new :)

ReplyDeleteI also have one of those 'Oh, I will alter this later' piles that is home to many, many garments. I think you should keep it as is, really. It's adorable.

I actually really like the length, and am super jealous that you can sew your own dresses! Oh how I wish!
ReplyDeletefirst- i am extremely in awe of your dressmaking talents. second- i do like the length, but hemmed it could be cute too! i always tend to go for the shorter lengths, but that's just me :)
ReplyDeleteoh and also, i LOVE that red/ green combo. amazing <3
amazing dress, love how you styled it
ReplyDeleteLove your dress Elycia! It's perfect!
ReplyDeleteThat A-line is really dramatic. I think it would look super cute hemmed above the knee. That reminds me, I need to start sewing. Blah, reminders.
ReplyDeleteI see something wrong with that dress - I don't have a matching one! :P
ReplyDeleteoh, also, that brooch looks killer there!
Deleteah hahahaha! oh i love you.
DeleteI love the way that your pair colours that I would never even think of pairing! I really like the dress the way that it is, but perhaps it would look better as a shorter length dress with the way that it flares?
ReplyDeleteI personally LOVE the little flare in your dress. So pretty! You totally remind me of Snow White - who is one of my favorite characters EVER. I'm not sure if it's your sweetness, your cute cropped hair or your dashing dress but eeee!
ReplyDeleteThat dress is so cute and I love the bottom of it. I love longer dresses that flare out. I think it looks fine just the way it is.
ReplyDelete(And I love the color of your tights.)
If ever there was a time to use the word "darling" to describe a dress/outfit, this would be it, so I'm going to!! Elycia, that dress s darling!! Don't change it!! X
ReplyDeleteoh the dress is perfect, i was just coming to say this is one of my favourite outfits posts of yours!
ReplyDeletethe hair tye is particularly pretty! :)
