thrift find :: for the office

Ok, so my office is not a typical "office". It is an office/studio/craft room and I love it. It is still very much in the process of being decorated and I have been grabbing all the kitty art that I can at the thrift stores. So far I only have these two thrifted pieces (plus a handful of non-thrifted ones) waiting to be hung. I am so in love with these two pictures...
Normally I don't like anything that involves an even remotely sad looking animal but I love this piece so much! I imagine that I am about to pick this kitty up and give him a big hug to cheer him up and it makes me happy. What? You think that's weird? Ya, I guess it is kind of weird. Moving on...
I really love the style of this and the girl reminds me a little of my Dolly Dears. So cute! I'm trying to decide if I want to paint the frames or leave them as is. Such a tough decision.

Something else I found for my office that isn't a picture is this amazing storage thing-y. In case you were wondering, that is the technical name for it.
This little beauty also came full of random bits and pieces that I may or may not find useful. She is definitely getting a paint job (maybe pink) and I think that she will look adorable hanging out in my studio full of my own things that I may or may not find useful.

Also! I hit the coat JACKPOT a while back and found the greatest winter coat I have ever laid eyes on. When I found it and showed Ivan he even said he liked it which is a big deal because usually he says something like "Yeah, it's ok" or "Don't you have a coat already?" or "Are you ready to go yet?" ;)

No photo of the coat for now but stay tuned. I'm sure it will pop in soon. Not this week though because we are in sunny Florida where winter coats are not necessary!

Have you found anything awesome lately?

  2. I love love love that storage thingy. I'd love to find something like that. My favourite recent find was completely unexpected. I'd bought a big bag with fabric scraps and when I got home there was also a vintage top in there. I was so excited.

  7. I have a confession to make...I have three sad eyed kitties hanging in my loft. As a mother of four cats you'd think I wouldn't want sad cats all over the place...but there is something about them that I love. I was trying to find a photo of my "art wall" in my loft but alas...no such luck. I believe they're called Pity Kitties by Gig :)

  16. I found a really awesome painting of a Tuscan landscape at a goodwill a few weeks ago. It was all these weird acid-trip colors, and would've looked awesome in my office, but I had one of those "is this REALLY cool or am I just having a spazzy moment" kinda moments and didn't get it. Regret. Oh well.

I would paint that frame with the girl a blue color. It would bring out her eyes and hair (looks kind of blue on my monitor) and accent the pink ribbons. Just my thought. :)

  18. Oh wow I love the sewing box! i've been hoping to stumble across one for ages but they are always around £30 secondhand which is just too much. My Dad was going to make me one from scratch, but it was going to cost so much money in wood and so many dovetail joints that instead he's going to make me a writing bureau! Hopefully I'll track one of these beauties down at a car boot soon!

  19. I have one of those storage thing-ies too! My grandma gave it to me. The kitty won't be sad anymore because he lives in your office.

  20. I live and teach right on the edge of Amish country and I find sewing boxes like this ALL the time at their thrift stores. I also find amazing cowboy boots out there. I guess the Amish have no need for amazing footwear anyway!

Ivan's responses sound like my husband when I'm in a yarn or fabric store. Thankfully the ones I frequent are also near a bike shop and a music store, so he has something to do while I shop.

  41. The kitty is a series called "Pity Kitty" the artist is "Gig" - he also made "Pity Puppies". I used to have a pity kitty picture as well as pity puppy picture hanging in my room when I was little. I've been searching for the prints for a while but haven't been able to find the set that I used to have. So cute. Great find.

I also have a very similar sewing container. It was my grandmothers, and my mom gave it to me after after she had passed away and filled it with bunches of her old sewing needles, threads, and random goodness.

    Great thrifty finds!!!
