Ok, so my office is not a typical "office". It is an office/studio/craft room and I love it. It is still very much in the process of being decorated and I have been grabbing all the kitty art that I can at the thrift stores. So far I only have these two thrifted pieces (plus a handful of non-thrifted ones) waiting to be hung. I am so in love with these two pictures...
Normally I don't like anything that involves an even remotely sad looking animal but I love this piece so much! I imagine that I am about to pick this kitty up and give him a big hug to cheer him up and it makes me happy. What? You think that's weird? Ya, I guess it is kind of weird. Moving on...
I really love the style of this and the girl reminds me a little of my Dolly Dears. So cute! I'm trying to decide if I want to paint the frames or leave them as is. Such a tough decision.
Something else I found for my office that isn't a picture is this amazing storage thing-y. In case you were wondering, that is the technical name for it.
This little beauty also came full of random bits and pieces that I may or may not find useful. She is definitely getting a paint job (maybe pink) and I think that she will look adorable hanging out in my studio full of my own things that I may or may not find useful.
Also! I hit the coat JACKPOT a while back and found the greatest winter coat I have ever laid eyes on. When I found it and showed Ivan he even said he liked it which is a big deal because usually he says something like "Yeah, it's ok" or "Don't you have a coat already?" or "Are you ready to go yet?" ;)
No photo of the coat for now but stay tuned. I'm sure it will pop in soon. Not this week though because we are in sunny Florida where winter coats are not necessary!
Have you found anything awesome lately?

Nice sewing box! I think my gramma has one exactly the same!
ReplyDeleteI love love love that storage thingy. I'd love to find something like that. My favourite recent find was completely unexpected. I'd bought a big bag with fabric scraps and when I got home there was also a vintage top in there. I was so excited.
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh my Grandma had that EXACT storage box! It's currently living in my mum's craft room, and I hope that one day it will be passed on to me =)
ReplyDeleteThe picture of the little girl and the kitten is so sweet, I love their matching ribbons! You should totally try matching elycia and cat hair accessories!
ReplyDeleteRachx
the sewing box is really cute. and i also love the background (is it a fabric? )in the first two photos :)
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see this coat you speak of!
ReplyDeleteI have a confession to make...I have three sad eyed kitties hanging in my loft. As a mother of four cats you'd think I wouldn't want sad cats all over the place...but there is something about them that I love. I was trying to find a photo of my "art wall" in my loft but alas...no such luck. I believe they're called Pity Kitties by Gig :)
ReplyDeleteSo awesome! I love successful thrift shop trips!
ReplyDeleteumm..best thrift store art ever? haha - definitely dont paint the frames I think they're more authentic this way. And I love the sewing box - I definitely think you should paint that!! Hope you guys are having the best time in Florida, soooo jealous!!

ReplyDeleteadorable pieces and I do have similar sewing box - it's simply gorgeous
ReplyDeleteI love those kitty pictures! And we've got one of those storage units too where we keep some of our oil paints. Though ours is in terrible condition and doesn't have the nifty legs on it. Great finds!
ReplyDeleteThose pictures are super cute, and I think those sewing boxes are great. My nan had one as well.
ReplyDeleteAwee cute paintings! And that storage thing looks SUPER handy!

I lovelovelove those two cat prints!! I think I would die if I found those while thrifting!!!
ReplyDeleteI found a really awesome painting of a Tuscan landscape at a goodwill a few weeks ago. It was all these weird acid-trip colors, and would've looked awesome in my office, but I had one of those "is this REALLY cool or am I just having a spazzy moment" kinda moments and didn't get it. Regret. Oh well.
ReplyDeleteI would paint that frame with the girl a blue color. It would bring out her eyes and hair (looks kind of blue on my monitor) and accent the pink ribbons. Just my thought. :)
wow what great finds!I absolutely love your amazing storate-thingy :)
ReplyDeleteOh wow I love the sewing box! i've been hoping to stumble across one for ages but they are always around £30 secondhand which is just too much. My Dad was going to make me one from scratch, but it was going to cost so much money in wood and so many dovetail joints that instead he's going to make me a writing bureau! Hopefully I'll track one of these beauties down at a car boot soon!
ReplyDeleteI have one of those storage thing-ies too! My grandma gave it to me. The kitty won't be sad anymore because he lives in your office.
ReplyDeleteI live and teach right on the edge of Amish country and I find sewing boxes like this ALL the time at their thrift stores. I also find amazing cowboy boots out there. I guess the Amish have no need for amazing footwear anyway!
ReplyDeleteMy family is near Amish country, I'll definitely have to check keep an eye out for a box or boots next time I'm there!
DeleteMy Gran owned a sewing box identical to yours. I wonder what happened to it. Funny how these things stick in your memory
ReplyDeleteTotally digging you "thing-y", Elycia! And I've been lucking out like whoa in my thrifty adventures lately. last trip found me the most badass 70s Fisher Price music box!
ReplyDeletethat girl with the cat picture is the cutest thing everrrr!!
ReplyDeleteHa ha, Ivan's comments sound exactly like my boyfriend, which is why we seldom shop together! "Don't you have a coat already?" Oh boys.
ReplyDeleteThat's the greatest storage box! I'd love to find something like that!
ReplyDeleteThat artwork is so YOU! Love.

OH how I love that storage thing-y! ;)
ReplyDeleteI love love love the sewing box you found. Lucky!
ReplyDeleteIvan's responses sound like my husband when I'm in a yarn or fabric store. Thankfully the ones I frequent are also near a bike shop and a music store, so he has something to do while I shop.
Oooh! What fun kitty pictures!!
ReplyDeleteBtw, yesterday I was catching up on your blog, and saw the photo an hour post. So I decided to do one of my own! And all because of you. :)
You can see it here if you want, since you inspired it. ;)

The storage thingy is a cantilever sewing box ;-)
ReplyDeleteOne day I will buy one and decoupage the inside of every compartment in a different pattern!
I can't wait to see the coat! I love the storage thing-y- it is amazing :) I'm always looking for unique storage for my craft room!
ReplyDeleteI have that exact same storage case! I got mine 14 years ago! A friend from the Czech Republic gave it to me for my sewing supplies. It had been her grandmother's in Czechoslovakia. So cool!
ReplyDeleteoh my gosh, these frames are to die for.
ReplyDeletea little jeally. i love them.
Haha my Nana has that amazing storage thing-y & still uses it!
ReplyDeleteHope you're having an amazing time in Florida!!
Quirkiest, cutest pictures ever! The cat made me chuckle. His eyes are just so BIG, and it makes me wonder who made this and what possessed them to do so. Very cool finds!

ReplyDeletesuch great finds!! i have the exact same sewing box from my grandma.
ReplyDeletei'd love to see how it turns out after you paint it!
:) lol-that's what my bf always says, "But what about your other 20 coats!" I have one closet actually dedicated to winter coats. I love them.
ReplyDeleteP.S. I can't wait to decorate my house when I am off work starting next week for 3 months. Have you seen this blog:

I am really excited about it!
I think those sweet pictures would look even more adorable with some pretty pastel frames, I vote to paint them! And my mother has an old sewing box almost exactly like that, sans legs. I never thought to paint it, though!

The kitty is a series called "Pity Kitty" the artist is "Gig" - he also made "Pity Puppies". I used to have a pity kitty picture as well as pity puppy picture hanging in my room when I was little. I've been searching for the prints for a while but haven't been able to find the set that I used to have. So cute. Great find.
ReplyDeleteI also have a very similar sewing container. It was my grandmothers, and my mom gave it to me after after she had passed away and filled it with bunches of her old sewing needles, threads, and random goodness.
Great thrifty finds!!!
awesomeeeee.
ReplyDeleteThat little storage case is so neat! love!!

ReplyDeleteAlso, those photos are adorable. I especially love the little girl, her little top knot is adorable and her hair looks blue which I adore.
I say keep the frames as is...I love the natural look
That first cat is adorable <3
ReplyDeleteMy mom has the same sewing box! It would look great in teal or turquoise...
ReplyDeleteI have a very similar fold out box! holds all my grandmas old sewing stuff (quite a lot!)
ReplyDeleteI love your little girl painting too! Great finds, Elycia :)
ReplyDeletethose are awesome finds. that cat pictres is amazing haha

My mom has almost the exact same storage thingy! She uses it for all her sewing stuffs. And then she has a jumble of ribbons in the bottom compartment. <3
ReplyDeletePlus, that first cat picture is awesome + a little scary.
Haha wow, our husband's would get along quite well. ;P
ReplyDeleteMy mum has that exact same storage-thingy/sewing box! She's had forever and it's overloaded with sewing paraphernalia. One of the lids is broken on hers though :(
ReplyDeleteMy mother had the whole collection of the sad cats paintings! they are cute and kinda depressing lol
