First off, just a quick thank you to everyone who left an especially sweet comment on yesterday's post. Can you believe I was actually nervous about posting the first photos of myself with "regular" hair. Most people are afraid of bright hair but it turns out I am a little afraid of non-bright hair. Anyways, thank you all so much for being so nice. What did I do to deserve you guys?! Ok, onward...

mentioned that I really want to create more this year and I am already off to a pretty good start. I have been wanting to make a zig zag/chevron afghan for such a long time and I finally decided to tackle that project. We are getting a new bed in a week and I would love to have it finished by then because that's what this pretty little project will hang out once it is finished. Not sure if I will actually complete it by then (these things take forever!) but I absolutely can't wait to finish this up.
I am very much a "small project" type of gal. I like the instant gratification of things that can be finished in one afternoon. I really wanted to challenge myself this year by committing to larger scale projects that take more than a few hours to complete. I know I am going to feel very accomplished when I finish this blanket!
It really helps that I chose a colour combination that makes me drool. I get so happy every time I look at it and every night I am excited to do a few more rows. I am already dreaming of other possible blanket colour combinations for pretty much every room in the house.
Do you do a lot of big projects or do you prefer smaller ones?

ReplyDeleteI started a scarf a few months ago but as I always have several projects in progress, this one was a bit abandonned... Moreover I have a hard time knitting with my cat in the picture... He love playing with the wool and also with the needles when he sees them move :/

Well, let me just say you look perfectly cute and fun still! I actually really like this colour :) The afgan rocks my world, the colours are sweeter than sweet. As for projects...small suits me for now - I've just started the 'home ec' sewing e-course...I'm so excited and can't wait to share my conquests on the blog! ReplyDeleteI'm working on a stripey knitted blanket, the colour are so pretty, it's navy, cerise pink and grey. It's taking forever though, 240 stitches per row, 6 rows per colour. I'm determined to get it done in January though, I've set a goal of doing 12 big craft projects this year and I'm gonna finish all of them!
ReplyDeleteHoly moly that's epic!!!!! It's going to look proper bad ass! I'm the same as you, I'm a small project girly - I want quick results so I can squeeeeeee over it! Sometimes however the reward really pays off with a big item though because you know how much work you've put into it!

Looks great! I'm a small projects gal as well. That is why I try to stick to toys. I have about a million unfinished sweaters and blankets in my UFO bin.

Ooh, I love that color combination! Those aren't colors I ever would have thought to put together (the purple and yellow), but they look wonderful. I tend to stick to smaller projects myself, but am trying to break that habit. I'm currently knitting a cardigan, which is definitely time consuming.

That colour combination IS amazing! I love how the chevroned rows aren't the same thickiness: some are narrower and some span a greater height! Looks incredible!

Is it knit? Or crochet? Either way, it looks really cool :) I LOVE to crochet, but Im really terrible at counting...so I usually end up with wonky scarves! I can manage a granny square though, so Ive been thinking that would be a good way to tackle a blanket.

And I feel like if I had a giant BAG to store my yarn and squares, it would make it more fun. This stupid BAG has taken me since Thanksgiving, but I think I'll finish it this week. ReplyDeleteI like both large and small projects. i currently have 5 blankets in progress...eeep. one of them is a gigantic (i have a problem with scale)ripple pattern that could easily reach the floor of a king size bed. another is a 8-bit pixel version of Link from Zelda involving thousands of granny squares. your blanket is beautiful!! i have that pattern but im forcing myself to wait to start it until ive finished the other blankets. good luck!

ReplyDeleteI crocheted an afghan not too long ago - don't worry, I won't plague your comments with the linkage. I did one in black and white and I love it. It took me 30 hours to complete (20min x 90 rows), aka 6 weeks of casual crocheting (giving you a heads up). I can't believe how toasty warm ours is.
