DIY :: wreath

Hello!

I know there are probably tons of wreath DIY's floating around out there but I thought I would show you guys how I made mine. I wanted something really simple to hang on our front door. I didn't make it super "holiday" themed so that I could leave it up after Christmas. Here's what I did!
You can find these at craft stores. The one I got is not rounded on the edges like most I have seen. I still thought it would make a cute wreath.
The hole in my ring was large enough to fit the entire ball of yarn so I didn't have to cut pieces to wrap this. Use whatever method you like to cover your ring in yarn.
I secured my yarn on the back side of the wreath by passing the end through a couple of pieces of yarn.
I used white felt and buttons to make little flowers for my wreath. To make them I cut a spiral in the felt (as shown) and then wrapped it around the buttons.
I used a bit of red yarn to make it look like the buttons were sewn on and then I glued the flowers to the wreath and the buttons to the centre of the flowers.

I hung my wreath on our front door and I love it! I can't wait to make another one.

Another really simple option I considered for my wreath was just a cute little bow. I used this tutorial that  Erin and Stephanie of Oh So Lovely Vintage shared on My Girl Thursday.

    This looks great. The colour of yarn you chose is perfect, it makes me want to swim in a sea of knitted afghans in that shade.

    Well crap...now I have to make a wreath! This is soooo cute! Loving the button flowers. I will be en route to my nearest craft store (that I have coupons for) after work! Here's hoping the felines don't destroy all the yarn...

    I love the simplicity of this! And of course, the yarny/button/felt goodness :-) I wasn't planning on doing a wreath this year, but I might give this a try, though I wouldn't waste it on my front door, no one would ever see it!

    I "winterized" a wreath I already had. It's a black feather one hat were all the rage a few years ago. I wrapped a silver snowflake garland around it and pinned a couple of glittery plastic snowflakes to the bottom. That way it can go back to being a plain old wreath after christmas!

    i love it! that color is so perfect! i saw on a blog once that she just pinned her decorations to the wreath so she could remove them and change it up for the holidays/not holidays/next holiday whatever. that way, she didn't have to make an entirely new wreath. even though, i now want to make one for every occasion. =]

    Ahh this is so cute!! I started to wrap a foam wreath in gray yarn but kept getting frustrated by having to cut pieces, wrap, glue.. Cut more pieces, repeat. But this is so flippin cute I think I need to finish mine today!! Thanks for the inspiration. :)

    P.S. those button flowers are all kinds of adorable!!
