It took quite a long time...almost the entire Big Shiny Tunes CD. Any one remember that one? First I cut it all over with scissors, then I used clippers to make the back more uniform. I am not so good at the around the ears areas but I managed to get them looking ok. Overall, I'm pretty impressed with my haircutting skills. Maybe I missed my calling. That is if there is a demand for a men's hairdresser who takes forever to give a haircut ;).
Do you cut your bf/husband's hair? Or your own? Any tips and tricks?

wonderful job! i cut my husband's hair all the time :) and i ALSO have a tough time around his ears. whenever he looks in the mirror to give final approval, he always (sweetly!) says "can you trim up around the ears a bit more?"
ReplyDeleteso my tip is to cut more than you initially think you should around the ears. maybe boys like to show off their ears more than us girls ;)
My partner wouldn't let me anywhere near his hair with a pair of scissors... believe me I've tried. Haha.

ReplyDeleteI cut my husband Cory's hair! I was so nervous- the shaking hands had to be hidden well. But I cut the top with clippers and a longish guard on, and then I did the bottom and around his ears with a short guard on the clipper thing. And then, lol, I used an in between guard to go around the middle to blend the top and bottom together! LOL I know it's probably a horrible way to do it, but it turned out awesome, and even he was pretty impressed! Yay me!

ReplyDeleteI actually cut my husbands hair -- I use kitchen sheers and just have at it...his hair is pretty fine/strait so I have to spend a lot of time making things look even and trimming. My suggestion is just patience and lot of looking in the mirror to make sure things are even.
I cut my hair sometimes too, but I have a whole mess of curls so if I'm messing up it's hard to tell. :) I mostly stick with cutting my bangs every which way.

My bf have long hair so I just give him layers, and I do mine too, but I do it with the hair razor instead of scissors (expect for the bangs of course :D)

ReplyDeleteI cut my own bangs... no one else ever seems to get them right. If you want a little shag to straight (betty) bangs, move the scissors slowly in an up and down motion as you cut. This way you get a bit of unevenness without sacrificing the uniformity of straight bangs. :)

He cuts his own hair like twice a month and he cuts his friends hair when they want him to. He has often asked me for some fancy clippers and I think I might just get them for him this year for his birthday.

Looking good! Plus, you two saved 7-20 bucks. I cut alot of hair: my husband's, both of my brothers, my dad, my mom, and me. My brothers and my husband need haircuts often too, so thank goodness. Patience is key and I ask alot of questions about how they want to look in the end, to ensure that there is happiness and not twitchy regret. We bookmark photos of haircuts we like online so we always have some cool ideas. I also scissors, but also electric clippers on short AND long hair, the clippers finish with a nice even look.

ReplyDeleteHe's so adorable! I bet it feels much different having so much less hair! You did a marvelous job. I cut my own hair in high school because I lived in a small town and all the salons were very old fashioned. I prefer a much more modern look, so I just found a picture in a magazine, and started cutting away. It worked (took forever though). Now that I live in the city, I have a stylist do it, it's MUCH more convenient.

ReplyDeleteI cut my boyfriend's hair, but luckily his is easy, he just puts on the guard to the clippers and then lets me cut it all uniform. Very easy. When I was in England my friend had me cut HER hair. I have to say, I did pretty good too, but if I change careers one more time, my parents are going to give up all hope in every getting grand kids because I won't be able to afford them with how much I have spent on school!

I use to cut Mikeys hair about hrmmm 3 or 4 years ago but it would take about 2 hours and in the end I said he had to go to the hairdresser who charged $15 instead of me spending so long doing it! it was really difficult to get it even because he has such thick straight hair.

ReplyDeleteI like his hair cut a lot! I cut my boyfriends hair but only with the electric clippers... he wouldn't let me touch him with scissors lol, he's too much of a perfectionist. He always goes over and does it himself once I'm done lol.

ReplyDeleteAgain, I am late to the party (I'm not a stalker, I promise... but I do read back through blogs I enjoy!)... I cut my fiance's hair and my soon to be brother-in-law's hair, too. The former I trim with scissors in an up and down fashion (vertical as opposed to horizontal to the blade), the latter is military so I simply use a razor and guard. If you use scissors I recommend not cutting horizontal to the hair! It leaves weird choppy layers.
